WE'RE HERE, and happy TO HELP

What is MORE Israel?

MORE Israel is a scholarship for a week-long stay in Jerusalem's Old City, where you will get to know the city and people of Jerusalem as you explore your Jewish heritage.

WHO COMES TO MORE ISRAEL?

Jewish students/young professionals ages 18-26 who love exploring the sights and sounds of Jerusalem, and who care about social justice.

Do I need to apply in advance?

MORE Israel works on a drop-in basis so you can arrive any day of the week but it is always helpful to apply in advance.

How much does it cost?

MORE Israel costs $36. Payments should be made after you are accepted

WHAT DOES THE PRICE INCLUDE?

Accommodations, 1 meal/day, interactive classes on timely Jewish topics and optional volunteering. There may also be local tours and fun activities depending upon the season and the amount of participants, which can cost up to $12 per trip.

how does payment work?

Your first need to apply. When you hear from us that you're accepted, you'll pay a $36 deposit via Paypal to secure your spot (you don't need a Paypal account - you can use your credit card on the Paypal site.) This will be a pre-payment for the MORE Israel program.

HOW DO I GET MY FLIGHT EXTENSION REIMBURSEMENT SCHOLARSHIP?

You have to take care of the actual travel arrangements on your own. Speak to your Birthright trip provider about how to do that since we don't handle ticket changes. To get the flight extension reimbursement, you need to commit to the week-long MORE Israel program which includes 5-6 mornings of Jewish educational programming and Shabbat. For the flight extension reimbursement, you will submit your receipt of payment and then you will get reimbursed by Paypal upon completion of the program. We can reimburse a flight extension up to $300.

Do I have to show up at everything?

We know that you need some down time, and that there's so many things to do in Israel...In order to get your flight extension reimbursement, you need to fulfil the Jewish educational component in the mornings and participate in the Shabbat experience. The volunteering and group activities (if applicable) are optional.

SO WHAT DO I DO NEXT?

Apply to MORE Israel. Then arrange your travel ticket extension with your Israel trip provider. You can do this before or during your trip to Israel and it should cost less than $300.

HOW WILL I GET TO MORE ISRAEL FROM MY ISRAEL TRIP?

We will be in touch with you to make sure you find us easily, cheaply and safely (by bus, train or shuttle). You can also take a taxi.

what are the accomMOdations like?

Most MORE Israel participants will be staying at the Heritage House youth hostel (www.heritage.org.il) which is a typical, quaint building in Jerusalem's Old City.

IS IT SAFE TO BE IN JERUSALEM THESE DAYS?

Jerusalem in general and the Old City in particular has increased its level of security. MORE Israel takes the most stringent safety precautions possible. Our location in the Jewish Quarter is actually one of the most protected locations in Israel.

WHAT WILL IT BE LIKE TO BE ON A DROP-IN PROGRAM?

Each day can be different, as participants come and go based on their own schedules. MORE Israel can start with one participant or a group, and this varies seasonally. You'll meet interesting new people both at the Heritage House hostel where you will be staying, as well as other MORE Israel participants.

IS THERE TRANSPORTATION PROVIDED TO THE VOLUNTEERING OPTIONS?

No. You can reach the volunteering destinations by foot or by public transportation (at your own cost). We will provide you with directions, and this will be a great way to get to know Jerusalem!

Most MORE Israel participants go to the Aish Essentials program but you can discuss other options with our staff before/when you come.
